Nagare style Manjiken
The “nagare” style of manji shuriken, is what the “modern wave style” shuriken comes from. There are a number of nagare (essentially refers to the flowing curve, rather than an angular bend, which would be a kakumanji) Many ryu havethis sort of shuriken in one style or another. The advantages of this style of shuriken include if it is thrown with the points spinning forward, it will cut and dig in, or if thrown with the points facing backward, it becomes a “clubbing” shuriken, a tsubute. Based on historical designs and dimensions, and created by Adam Davis. Precision laser cut from 10 gage 1018 steel for consistency. Own a piece of history, get your Nagare style Manjiken today!

ABOVE: Togakure Ryu Senban- Style and Size Comparison
Togakure Senban 1
The senban (literally lozenge shaped) shuriken is endemic of the Togakure ryu. As it was derived from a nail pulling device or square washer, the hole size and shape can vary from being very large (almost 1 ” square) to fairly small, as in our example here, with a hole under ½” in size (after research with the Togakure ryu, the “official” size of the hole is around 5/8” square). There are also examples with round holes to be seen, which are also the most often copied version, as the so called “moon star”, and are often undersized and too thick. Based on historical designs and dimensions from an example in a private collection, and created by Adam Davis. Precision laser cut from 14 gage 1018 steel for consistency. This is the smallest of the style we offer, at 7" long, and 3/16" diameter. The butt end is rounded, with a conical grind for the tip, over 3/4" long. Shirai Ryu Shuriken 3
Shirai Ryu was founded by Shirai Toru Yoshikane, born 1783 in Okayama and died in 1843, aged 61. The ryu itself is considered extinct, though the techniques are still taught within the Negishi Ryu. The Shirai Ryu may lay claim to one of the wider varieties of bo shuriken, based on lengths alone, as well as deriving their shuriken from both square 'kugi' (nails) and round cross section needles of the day. This is the next largest of the style we offer, at 10" long, and 1/4" diameter. The butt end is rounded, with a conical grind for the tip, over 1" long. These shuriken are not as readily concealed, but throw very well and penetrate soft targets deeply. Elegant in form, and offering excellent penetration, these harigata of the Shirai ryu are available now
in sets of 3, 5, and 9. These are exact replicas based on historical designs and dimensions, personally hand ground by Adam Davis from solid steel bar stock, before being heat treated.

Shingetsu Ryu Shuriken
This shuriken art was reportedly passed onto Manzo Iwata Sensei of Shito-Ryu by Seiko Fujita Sensei, in 1948. The shuriken of the Shingetsu Ryu is similar in size to some of the Shirai Ryu blades, however, they are somewhat thicker toward the tip end of the shuriken, with a faceted style of grind rather than the conical grind found on the harigata variety of Shirai Ryu blades, of comparable size. At 7" and 1/4" diameter at the smallest diameter (the largest diameter being 9/32" just behind the point grind), these shuriken are easily concealed if needed, and this shuriken is easily capable of penetrating any soft targets with ease. Elegant in form, and offering excellent penetration, these shuriken of the Shingetsu ryu are available now

Kashima Shinryu Shuriken
Founded in the late fifteenth century, the Kashima-Shinryu is one of the oldest martial systems in Japan. The art is a 12 discipline art, which includes a shurikenjutsu component. The shuriken resembles one of the Negishi Ryu variants, and is thrown in the 'direct hit' method (choku-da-ho), but the grip is different from the Negishi Ryu method. The blade is held slightly angled across the palm, with the tip resting against the index finger, and the throw mimics the 'collar-cut' of using a sword (kesa-giri). The shuriken, as it is relatively short, is moved up in the grip for closer targets, and further down toward the center of the palm for more distant targets. At a length of 4 and7/8", this blade is one of the shortest we currently make. The thickness of the square profile tapers from 9/16" to 3/8" at the butt end, starting at the octagonal faceted point, which extends (measuring from the flat of the square) 1" forward to the tip. These shuriken are easily concealed if needed, and this shuriken is easily capable of penetrating any soft targets with ease. Elegant in form, and offering excellent penetration, these shuriken of the Kashima Shinryu are available now
in sets of 3, 5, and 9. These are exact replicas based on historical designs and dimensions, personally hand ground by Adam Davis from solid steel bar stock, before being heat treated.

Ikku Ryu Shuriken
Ikku-ken is the name given to a relatively modern style of shuriken, created in 1965 by modern day shuriken master, and author Shirakami Eizo. Unfortunately, the master passed on in 2001 at age 80, leaving no apparent successor to the ryu. It was his innovation to use the double pointed blade shown here, as he studied with Master Naruse Kanji, the 3rd headmaster of Negishi Ryu shurikenjutsu, whom, in turn, was a student of the aforementioned founder of Shirai Ryu, Shirai Toru. The reason for this innovation, was to be able to throw either in the Negishi style of throwing, or the Shirai style of throwing, without the need to change either the style of shuriken he was using, nor the position in the hand, to execute a successful throw. While double pointed blades have been around for centuries, this idea appears to be somewhat unique, in combining the idea of making/using a more versatile blade, to cover the styles of throwing for at least two schools. This style of Ikku Ryu blade (Or Ikku-ken) is 3/8" thick, in square cross section, and over 7" long, with a taper that begins gradually, ending in the curved tapered tips shown here. These shuriken are easily concealed if needed, and this shuriken is easily capable of penetrating any soft targets with ease. Elegant in form, and offering excellent penetration, these shuriken of the Ikku Ryu are available now
in sets of 3, 5, and 9. These are exact replicas based on historical designs and dimensions, personally hand ground by Adam Davis from solid steel bar stock, before being heat treated.

Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu Daishuriken
This style is one of the most famous martial arts of Japan, with a long and distinguished history. It is a composite art consisting of many weapons, sword and shuriken included. The method of throwing (direct hit) is virtually identical to the Negishi Ryu, and in addition to the similarities in the styles of shuriken shapes, these two ryu may be very closely linked or related. The 'daishuriken' (meaning large shuriken) is the heaviest of the styles found among the ryu, with its weight concentrated to the front of the shuriken. The dispersal of the weight of the shuriken also affects its rotation in flight, making it better suited for targets of different ideal distances. This shuriken is 6 1/2" long, and over 1/2" thick at the base of the tip taper, tapering back to 5/16" at the butt of the shuriken. These shuriken are easily concealed if needed, and this shuriken is easily capable of penetrating any soft targets with ease. Elegant in form, and offering excellent penetration, these shuriken of the Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu are available now

The method of throwing (direct hit) is virtually identical to the Negishi Ryu, and in addition to the similarities in the styles of shuriken shapes, these two ryu may be very closely linked or related. The 'chushuriken' (meaning medium/middle shuriken) is the heaviest of the styles found among the ryu, with its weight evenly distributed through the length of the shuriken. The dispersal of the weight of the shuriken also affects its rotation in flight, making it better suited for targets of different ideal distances. This shuriken is 6 1/2" long, and over 3/8" thick at the base of the tip taper, retaining that thickneess back to the tail taper, where it tapers to 3/16" for the butt of this shuriken. Tsugawa Ryu Shuriken
The blade used by the Tsugawa Ryu is a large, double pointed spatulate blade, called by some a teppan, and by others a ryobari-gata shuriken, or ryohashi tsurugi-gata shuriken, as it has two points that are similar to the double edge straight sword called tsurugi. Many sources indicate that it was derived from part of the armor, or yoroi, of the samurai, that could be ripped free of the protective suit and thrown at an enemy as a sort of 'weapon of last resort', to gain an edge in combat. At 7 1/2" long, 1" wide, and over 3/16" thick, this fully tempered, solid 1075 spring steel blade is one of two variants that will be made available. These shuriken are easily concealed if needed, and this shuriken is easily capable of penetrating any soft targets with ease. Koga Ryu Tantogata
Named for the region where these were commonly used, a simple tanto blade has been adapted for use as a throwing weapon. Devoid of any furniture, this partially double edged blade has a fully functional edge, that is 'ax sharp', to maintain some utility as a cutting tool if needed, but not so sharp as to easily cut the thrower. The mekugi-ana (peg hole) is functional, if the user decides to put the blade to use as a working tanto. 10' long, with a 6 1/2" main edge, 2" secondary edge, 1" wide at its widest point, and 3/16" thick, this solid 1075 spring steel blade is fully heat treated and tempered to a spring temper to endure years of throwing. These shuriken are easily concealed if needed, and this shuriken is easily capable of penetrating any soft targets with ease. Elegant in form, and offering excellent penetration, these shuriken of the Koga Ryu are available now individually, or

Enmei Ryu Tantogata
The famous swordsman Miyamoto Musashi was reportedly the founder of this school, which involves throwing a blade up to 14" long, probably a tanto. Shorter examples are also known, some including tassels tied through the mekugi-ana (peg hole). This example is 10" long, with a 6 1/2" functional edge. The edge is left 'ax sharp', so as to retain functionality as a knife if needed, and not so sharp as to easily cut the thrower when thrown. At 1" wide at its widest point and 3/16" thick, this solid 1075 spring steelblade is fully heat treated to a spring temper to endure years of throwing. These shuriken are easily concealed if needed, and this shuriken is easily capable of penetrating any soft targets with ease. Araki Ryu Hokogata
Little is known about the Araki ryu, however, this style of blade has been identified as belonging to the Araki ryu, by Yumio Nawa Sensei. This is among the largest of the style, over 12" in length, in the style of a te-yari blade, the te-yari being smaller than a normal yari, but larger than the uchi-ne, a small throwing spear. The te-yari was not normally thrown. However, the blade by itself, evidently was. Hokogata (spear-blade shaped bo shuriken) like this can be found as short as 6", and as large as this example, at over 12", with a 7" traditionally ground 3 sided yari cross section, and over 1' wide. Left unedged for the safety of the thrower, the solid 1075 sping steel blade can readily be sharpened, if desired. Other smaller sizes will be offered in the future for this blade style. This shuriken is easily capable of penetrating any soft targets with ease. Elegant in form, and offering excellent penetration, these shuriken of the Araki Ryu are available now individually, or
in sets of 3, 5, and 9. These are exact replicas based on historical designs and dimensions, personally hand ground by Adam Davis from solid steel bar stock, before being heat treated.

Qin Biao
Pronounced ‘Chin Bao’, this line of unique throwing weapons is classified as ‘fei biao’, or flying cloth darts, in the Chinese weapons lexicon. We offer 6 styles all precision laser cut from 1018 steel plate, ¼” thick, and in three sizes, 5”, 6”, and 7”. These darts also may be thrown without the cloth through the ‘eye’ as a normal shuriken, if you wish, though the cloth adds drag to the tail end of the dart, allowing it to more easily find the target point first, as well as making it easier to find if it falls into the grass. It can also allow you to attach a length of stout cord, allowing you to throw and immediately retrieve the dart, muchc in the same manner as the Chinese rope dart. Ground in a convex grind, these blades are meant for heavy duty use, and will stand up to years of punishment! Also available in limited runs of heat treated 1075 spring steel with DuraCoat MIL SPEC coatings!

A unique creation of the Black Dragon Forge, the ProShaken Dragons Teeth Shuriken set combines just the right ratio of weight and length for effective and consistent throwing performance. The spiral shank of the shuriken not only gives a better grip for throwing or while being used in close quarters combat as a fighting dirk, but it can impart a bullet like spin to help stabilize the shuriken in flight for a point first hit, if gripped and released in such a manner as to allow the shuriken to slip from the fingers when thrown. Designed by Adam Davis. Hand ground from 1018 hot rolled steel, they will absorb years of punishment. Easily straightened if bent or otherwise damaged during use, and readily re-sharpened if required. Add the 'teeth of the dragon' to your arsenal today!
