Ninja-To

Ninja Ninja Ninja

Ninja-To

This is an example of the "legendary" ninja straight sword, known as the "ninja-to". While not as graceful as the sword carried by the samurai class, it was no less deadly. The 20" tool steel blade and 12" tsuka (handle) lends itself to being highly maneuverable in tight spaces, while retaining the leverage needed for cutting. The thick square guard also added an extra weapon in a fight, to punch or rake with while in close, and also as a tool to pry open locked shoji doors, or as a step if propped against a wall to reach the eaves of a building. Over 1 1/4" wide at the base of the blade and double distal tapered for balance and enhanced cutting ability. "Battle wrapped" black on black ito and same`(handle wrap) with black enameled steel fittings (NOTE: Model shown is the personal sword of the proprieter, with copper fittings and reinforced habaki), heat treated to 57 RC with a spring temper, personally hand crafted by Adam Davis. This blade is worthy of the more notable ninjas of Japanese history and lore!

Item # NINTO-01 $275, S&H included.

Shirasaya "Bokken" Chisa-Katana

Bokken
bokken-katana2.jpg (9291 bytes)

Shirasaya "Bokken" Chisa-Katana

This blade was a gift for Grandmaster Ashida Kim. When sheathed, the 24" katana blade appears to be an ordinary bokken. A simple "shirasaya" (Japanese for "resting sheath") style katana, in this case "chisa katana" length blade as shown. More often, the blade measures between 26" and 29", depending on the preference of the user. Outfitted with only the habaki (blade collar), it makes for a very simple and elegant blade not only for display, but for actual use. Permanently attached tsuka (handle) and matching stained oak sheath, leather band at the mouth of the saya (sheath). Personally hand crafted by Adam Davis from A-2 tool steel hardened to 57 Rc and spring tempered, and the finest red oak hardwood. This very blade (in O-1 tool steel) was able to cut through 4 1/2 tatami in tameshigiri testing!

Item# KATAN-01 $390 S&H included

-Also available in 27" and 29" blade lengths-

The "Shinobi-gatana"

dao

Ninja Ninja Ninja Ninja

The "Shinobi-gatana"

This form of ninja-to comes with a 4" longer than the standard blade, for a total of 24" in blade length. The tsuka is correspondingly shorter, at 9 1/2" in overall length, making it, by proportion, a straight bladed "chisa katana". Fitted with two iron kurikata ( scabbard knobs or tying points for the sageo cord), and often more conventionally colored such as this version, it could have been worn openly, up until the Tokugawa Shogunate. The longer straight blade afforded the reach of the chisa-katana, but retained the ability and utility of its smaller counterpart, the ninja-to. This model also shows the influence of the Portugese traders, as it has a ricasso (an unbeveled, widened portion of the blade) at the base of the blade rather than the traditional habaki, which not only eliminated a potential problem that could arise later (habakis tend to split on the edge side, especially the soldered variety) but actually strengthens the blade considerably. 34" overall when sheathed, fitted with standard blackened iron fittings on the sheath and tsuka (Model shown has copper/bronze fittings on the tsuka). Personally hand crafted by Adam Davis from A-2 tool steel, hardened to 57 Rc with a spring temper, and the finest hardwoods. Black buckskin "same`" under the cotton ito handle braiding. Available in black, red (shown), green, blue, and stained hardwood with brown ito wrap. Get the best of both worlds, get your shinobi-gatana today!   Item#SHING-01 $350 S&H Included

The Naginata

naginata
NinjaNinja

The Naginata

Naginata came in many shapes and sizes through the history of Feudal Japan. Originally a weapon made for the battlefield capable of cleaving the legs from under a charging horse, or cleaving an armored enemy asunder, the naginata evolved into a weapon also suited for use in the defense of the Lord's castle or retainer's home. As the women were usually left at home during war time, the naginata became the logical choice of weapons for the lady of the house to fend off riaders and other interlopers, giving her greater reach than a katana, with all the cleaving and cutting power of the sword. This example has a 14" dramatically curved blade, with a hi (pronounced "hee", which is a fuller in the blade) near the base of the blade, and a false edge extendng from the hi to the tip of the blade to lighten the blade and reduce drag while cutting. Outfitted with a hibaki, seppa, and a manji style guard with traditional naginata fittings, and set in an ebony stained 52" solid red oak haft. Matching wooden sheath standard, leather sheath shown is extra. Personally hand crafted by Adam Davis from A-2 tool steel, hardened to 57 Rc with a spring temper, this halberd is ready to guard the home, or grace your weapon collection!

Straight Bladed Darn Dao

Darn Dao
NinjaNinjaNinja

Straight Bladed Darn Dao

This version of the Darn Dao or Chinese Saber, is also known in some circles as a "Wild Goose Sword". Perhaps one of the oldest historical Darn Dao designs, this model shown, has a 21" blade, with a maximum width of nearly 3", and measures in at 28" overall. The graceful curve of the edge gives this sword incredible cutting power, and at over 3/16 of an inch thick at the spine, it has plenty of backbone for a thrust, while remaining flexible enough to take a hard blow to the side while blocking. Heat treated to a 57 Rc hardness with a spring temper from A-2 tool steel, semi-mirror polish. Red oak handle scales traditionally wrapped with red cotton taping, fitted with a stainless steel flat oval guard, comes with wooden sheath matching the handle wrap, not shown. Personally hand crafted by Adam Davis. Also available in 24" blade, and 27" blade lengths. Get one today, and let your "Wild Goose" fly, as you do your favorite saber form!   Item# DARN2-01 $275 S&H included   -Also available in 24" and 27" blade lengths-

Scalloped Darn Dao

This is an example of a scalloped blade Darn Dao, with typical oval shaped guard, with a downward curved handle. The Darn Dao is, seemingly, one of the most widely used weapons in all of the Chinese martial arts, and therefore, one of the most popular. The back of the blade, with its small points, can be used offensively on a backswing, and offers a more intimidating blade to use in combat. The guard is cupped and oval in shape, to help keep rain water out of the sheath while traveling. Constructed of A-2 tool steel hardened to a 57 Rc, the 20" blade is great for tight places, but heavy duty enough to stand up to combat. Black enameled guard and pommel with black cord wrap. The blade is 2 1/4" wide at its widest point, and the sword is 27" overall, and is available additionally in 23" blade length, and 26" blade length. Personally crafted by Adam Davis. This model Darn Dao comes with a matching wooden sheath, not shown.  Item#   DARND-01 $270, S&H included   -Also available in 24" and 27" blade lengths-     Daggers, Axes, and Sandata

O-Tanto

Otantos

O-Tanto

These are two O-Tanto's that were made for a buyer and his brother. These have 13" blades with upswept tips and offset tangs with a hamadashi style guard made of steel. More typically, the tang is centered in relation to the blade. The "traditional model", personally hand crafted by Adam Davis from A-2 tool steel, hardened to 57 Rc with a spring temper. It is fitted with the finest hardwoods, blackened or polished steel tsuka fittings, and either a hamadashi style guard constructed of steel or brass, your choice. Historically a weapon of last ditch defense, or honorable death by self sacrifice (seppuku) in the face of being captured and dishonored. It was often worn as a "pratical ornament" to the royal court when swords were not permitted.

The tang of the blade is securely bolted into the solid oak handle, and bolstered with solid steel reinforcing bands that are not only decorative, but a bludgeoning weapon in their own right.
